In 2023, a new Mazda CX-50 cross should enter the automotive market. It will turn out to be a coupe-like version of the 3rd generation CX-5. The Mazda CX-5 itself will switch to a rear-wheel drive platform and receive an in-line 6-cylinder engine, BestCarWeb writes.
Information about the next generation Mazda CX-5 is not news: in the fall of last year there was information that the third CX-5 will step into the premium segment – the cross is being created on a new “large platform” with a longitudinal unit and an anal “constitution”.
The new CX-5 will share the platform with the next Mazda 6, due out in 2022.
New information regarding the preparation of the CX-50. The relationship between the CX-5 and CX-50 is predicted to be roughly the same relationship as between the X3 and X4 in BMW’s lineup. Also, it is with these Bavarian cars that competition is planned after the transition to the premium class.
A new family of 6-cylinder engines is being developed for future Mazda vehicles. Their characteristics have not yet been disclosed. It is only known that 3 versions will be offered in parallel: gasoline (Skyactiv-G), diesel (Skyactiv-D) and gasoline with compression ignition (Skyactiv-X). There are also hybrid options.
