The Mercedes-Benz brand will remove C- and E-class coupes and convertibles from its lineup in order to reduce its model range and reduce internal competition. According to the publication Auto Express, they will be replaced by a completely new model, which will receive the CLE index. In addition, it will become a kind of successor to the SLC roadster, which the German brand abandoned for some time ago.
Coupes and convertibles do not bring a lot of money to the German company, said the head of the development department of the Mercedes-Benz brand Markus Schafer. But the presence of such models in the row is important from the point of view of the brand’s image, therefore, they will not be completely abandoned, while their number will be reduced.
According to the assumption of the publication Auto Express, the future novelty of Mercedes-Benz will take the form of a two-door 4-seater convertible equipped with a fabric top. It will be developed on the same platform that was used for the current Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the engine lineup will be mainly 4-cylinder engines. In this case, the use of in-line “sixes” is not excluded, but only for the most expensive versions of the novelty.
The novelty should be presented in 2023 with the SLC index: immediately after Mercedes-Benz officially introduces and starts selling the new generation SL model. It will transform from a roadster into a convertible, for the first time in history it will receive all-wheel drive and will also replace several models at once, primarily the S-Class coupe and convertible.
