Serial electric car Mercedes-Benz EQS can drive on a single charge 700 miles on the WLTP cycle. This was confirmed by Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius during the annual meeting of shareholders of the company, which this time was held online due to the coronavirus.
Battery for EQS will produce a subsidiary of “Daimler”, Accumotive, at the “Mercedes-Benz Untertürkheim” – one of the oldest companies in the German auto giant. Judging by the EQS concept Vision 2019, a model that is positioned as an electric analogue of the S-class sedan (albeit built on a separate platform), get a battery pack with a capacity of 100 kilowatt-hours.
It is equally important that it will support 350-kilowatt charging – the power just provide the terminal network Ionity, the construction of which takes part of Daimler. Accordingly, an 80% charge, which usually focuses the majority of producers are less than 20 minutes.
700 kilometers is the application for record in the class. For comparison, the “long-range” certified in Europe Tesla Model S has a range of 610 miles on WLTP. However, not long ago, the American Agency for environmental protection (EPA) officially recognized the Model S Plus Long Range electric vehicle that can overcome the 402 mile (647 km), and methods of testing in the United States, even stricter than the new European ones.
In General the leader can still be considered “Tesla”. In addition to Mercedes-Benz EQS, the liftback Elon musk have to compete with the new Jaguar XJ and BMW 7-series. Audi, though, and refused to full electrification of the flagship A8 sedan, is preparing instead just two big electric – e-tron GT (similar to the Porsche Taycan) and something called the A9 e-tron.
