Mercedes is preparing a restyling of the G-Class

The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class (index W463) was presented at the beginning of 2018, and a couple of months later its “charged” version of the AMG G63 debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. Now the Germans have begun road tests of a restyled version of such a car – spy photos of the SUV were published by Carscoops.

The front and rear of the car are covered with camouflage, but it can be assumed that the new items will differ from the current SUV by a slightly modified radiator grille, a bumper with air intakes of a different shape and optics with modified graphics. It is possible that wheels of a different design will also be available, and several new shades will be added to the body color palette.

As for the interior, there will be a new steering wheel and the latest generation MBUX infotainment complex inside. Plus, the car can get new modern electronic assistance systems.

The technical aspect is expected to remain unchanged. The updated Mercedes-AMG G63 will be equipped with the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with variable impeller geometry, developing 585 hp. and 850 Nm of torque.

The supercharged “eight” is paired with the 9-speed automatic AMG Speedshift TCT and the AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system, which now distributes traction between the axles in a ratio of 40:60 in favor of the rear. A car weighing about 2.5 tons is capable of accelerating from zero to “hundreds” in 4.5 seconds, and its maximum speed is forcibly limited to 220 km per hour.

The updated Mercedes-Benz G-Class family is expected to debut towards the end of next year. At about the same time, the premiere of an extreme modification of the 4×42 SUV, as well as the production version of Gelandewagen on electric traction, will take place.
