A teaser campaign dedicated to the new Mercedes-Benz Citan started back in November last year, but then the manufacturer, in fact, only confirmed that the van will retain the familiar name, showing the corresponding nameplate. Now we have one full-fledged, albeit darkened, image, and, more importantly, the date and time of the premiere.
The presentation starts a month later, on August 25, at 15:00 Kiev time. It will be held on the already familiar digital platform Mercedes me media: top managers of the Mercedes-Benz Vans division will talk about the new product online. At the moment, it is known that, like the original model, the second generation Citan was developed in close cooperation with Renault. Last month, the French themselves confirmed that they will continue to produce a model for a partner in Maubeuge, but now within the framework of Renault ElectriCity. The all-electric eCitan will be unveiled alongside the Citan.
The family will continue to feature the Citan Tourer compact van, while Mercedes-Benz will also launch a completely new, more luxurious passenger model, the T-Class. The latter will also have a battery modification – its design was revealed back in May using the EQT concept as an example. In other words, we are talking about the younger brothers of the V-class and EQV.
The new Citan and eCitan should hit the market before the end of this year, the T-class and EQT in the first half of next. Their life cycle, it seems, will not be too long: on the eve of Mercedes-Benz presented an updated electrification strategy, according to which, starting from 2025, all new minivans and light commercial vehicles will be built on the VAN.EA platform.
