MINI will refuse not only from leather, but also from “chrome”

The widespread introduction of recycled materials allows you to preserve natural reserves of raw materials and leads to a decrease in CO2 emissions at the production stage. The MINI brand adheres to this principle at all stages of design, from body structure to interior trim, according to the press service of the automaker.

In future MINI models, recycled materials will be present in the headlining and seats, flooring and flooring. The place of genuine leather will be taken by a material made of natural fiber and plastic obtained by recycling bottles. The material for the floor mats will be sourced from fishing nets.

Together with natural leather, MINI plans to eliminate the use of chrome interior elements. Natural materials such as cork and removable textile covers will be used to decorate the steering wheel and floor areas. At the same time, the interior design of MINI will maintain the premium status of the models in order to meet the expectations of the brand’s fans.

The MINI Strip Concept from couturier Paul Smith, unveiled in August this year, is a prime example of the potential for recycled materials. The car’s interior has been radically reimagined using recycled materials and 3D-printed parts, and individual interior components can be easily dismantled and returned to the recycling cycle at the end of the vehicle’s life cycle.
