The new generation Mitsubishi Outlander was presented at the beginning of this year, but so far there is only a gasoline modification for the American market in the production program. And for native Japan, Mitsubishi is preparing a hybrid version – Outlander PHEV. Its premiere will take place this winter. In the meantime, the Japanese automaker has published only two teasers with fragments of the novelty and basic information about it.
It is reported that the PHEV version will have a new generation hybrid system: with more powerful electric motors, as well as an increased capacity of the traction battery. Accordingly, progress in dynamics and an increase in cruising range are planned. And the new architecture with an optimized arrangement of nodes and elements will make it possible for the first time to make the hybrid Outlander a seven-seat crossover.
There are no other details about the new Mitsubishi Outlander hybrid yet. Recall that the new Outlander crossover is built on the same platform as the Nissan X-Trail / Rogue. And last spring, a hybrid version of the X-Trail was announced, equipped with an e-Power powertrain. E-Power technology works only in sequential mode: the wheels are rotated by an electric motor, and the gasoline engine (this is a three-cylinder 1.5 VC-Turbo turbo unit) works exclusively in generator mode to recharge the traction battery. It is logical to assume that this hybrid system will most likely be adapted for the new Outlander PHEV.
