The factory BMW in Leipzig came down the last copy of hybrid i8 coupe. Initially it was assumed that the production model will be completed in April 2020, but pandemic coronavirus has made adjustments to the plans of the German automaker, bringing the i8’s life was extended for another month and a half.
The production version of the BMW i8 debuted at the Frankfurt motor show in 2013, and in 2014-m model appeared in dealer showrooms. Until the summer of 2020 has collected more than 20 thousand hybrids.
The hybrid was equipped with an electric motor that was installed on the front axle (it had a battery capacity of 7.1 kilowatt-hours), and the gasoline “Turbotronic” 1.5 liters in the rear. During the last update in 2018 the output of the motor was increased to 143 forces, and the capacity of the battery to 11.8 per kilowatt-hour.
In 2019, it was reported that in five years BMW will release an electric car, built on the grounds of the concept Vision M Next. Serial sports car will have technology racing division of BMW i Motorsport from Formula E and its main competitors will be the Tesla Roadster and the Audi R8 e-tron.
