Along with the presentation of the 11th generation five-door hatchback Civic, which will enter the conveyor in the United States this year, Honda made an important announcement: in 2022 the new Civic Hybrid and Civic Type R will be added to the family.
About the first it is known that it will receive a proprietary power plant e: HEV, while none of its characteristics are disclosed. The second is still a complete mystery.
However, we still know something from different sources. Thus, the new Civic Type R should keep the mechanics (after the base hatch) and become the last model of the brand on the European market, which will be equipped exclusively with an internal combustion engine – without electric attachments.
There are no plans for a full drive. It is likely that the new Honda Civic Type R will try to claim the title of fastest front-wheel drive car on the Nürburgring, which its predecessor had a few years ago. Then the title passed to Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R, and even later – to Lynk & Co 03 Cyan.
Now the 11th generation Honda Civic family includes a sedan and a hatchback. For both, a two-liter 160-horsepower naturally aspirated engine and a 1.5-liter 183-horsepower turbo engine are available. In the four-door model, both engines are combined only with a variator, for the five-door model it will be possible to order a six-speed “handle” as an option. It has been officially confirmed that, in addition to the “hot” Type R, the manufacturer intends to keep the “heated” modification Si in the family – but only for the sedan: the coupe has been retired.
