Honda has shared pictures of the next generation Civic Type R and announced that the new model will debut worldwide in 2022.
Recall that the current model Honda Civic Type R (FK8) has been produced since 2017. The car is set in motion by a “turbo four” 2.0 with a capacity of 320 hp. and 400 Nm of torque. Through a 6-speed manual transmission, the engine’s thrust goes to the front wheels, and Honda is not going to make an all-wheel drive car, because this will increase the weight of the car and entail many other problems, including a serious rise in price.
Most likely, the new Civic Type R will retain the layout and powertrain, but will be slightly more powerful. Rumors of a hybrid powerplant with two electric motors like the NSX will remain rumors, as even Ford abandoned such a scheme on the Focus RS due to its economic impracticality. However, the characteristic three tailpipes with a resonator in the center will remain on the new Civic Type R.
The debut of the “charged” five-door Civic Type R will take place in 2022. The car will receive a new style interior, upgraded suspension and limited slip differential. In addition, the novelty will be Honda’s last non-hybrid model in Europe.
