New crossover Alfa Romeo: fresh details

FineAuto

The Polish site Spider’s Web Autoblog, through insiders, learned about the dimensions and engine range of the second Alfa Romeo crossover – Tonale. According to these data, the SUV will share the platform with the Jeep Compass, and will also receive a common set of units with the “American”. To crown the family will be a plug-in hybrid with a 1.3 petrol engine and an electric motor on the rear axle, developing a total of 240 horsepower. There will also be a version with a 48-volt starter-generator and a non-hybrid version with the same turbo engine.

The Poles once again confirmed that it was already known for a long time. The Alfa Romeo Tonale will be based on the Small Wide 4×4 platform from Jeep Compass and Renegade. Consequently, the range of engines for cars will be the same. The most powerful and expensive version will be a plug-in hybrid. It will receive a 4xe power plant based on a 1.3 supercharged unit, which, together with an electric motor, produces 240 forces and 270 Nm of torque. With this set, the Compass accelerates to a hundred in 7.5 seconds and travels on electric traction for 49 kilometers, but the Alpha’s performance could be even better.

Also Tonale (named after the Passo del Tonale in northern Italy) is predicting a moderate hybrid system with a 48-volt starter-generator and a 1.3 turbo engine devoid of any electrical superstructure. The latter on the “Jeep” has two levels of boost (130 and 150 forces), combined with a six-speed “mechanics”, or “robot” DDCT, and exclusively front-wheel drive. Compass also has a 1.6 Multijet II diesel engine (130 hp and 320 Nm) paired with a manual transmission, but it is not known whether Alfa Romeo will get it.

In terms of size, Tonale is also not far from the Jeep Compass. Their wheelbase is the same – 2636.52 mm. However, the length, width, height are different: 4528 (-133.8), 1835 (-39.52 mm) and 1604 millimeters (-36 mm), respectively. Much smaller in size will be the subcompact Brennero on the French “trolley” CMP, the production of which at the plant in Poland will begin only in April 2023. In total, by 2026, the Italians will present five new models. Among them will be the two mentioned crossovers, and possibly a hybrid GTV coupe.
