New electric car smart forfour spotted on tests in Germany

Owned by German concern Daimler brand smart begins its all-electric future. Now, the automaker will focus on fully electric models – the first a smart forfour.

Company smart will very soon become the automaker, which will produce only an electric model. The brand, owned by German concern Daimler, will fill all its range of electric vehicles, and the first one will be an updated version of the forfour cars.

Foreign journalists published a series of “spy” photos, which give us the first look at this new product. It is reported that the pictures were taken somewhere in Germany.

As you can see, no major visual changes compared to the ordinary version of the model is not planned – the city car will retain its General shape, profile and proportions. The front part will still be modified but the modifications will be small – expect to see a revised grille and a slightly modified bumper with different openings for air intake.

In the back, it is still the same smart forfour, which can be purchased now, except the rear lights, which can get the updated domestic schedule. Parking sensors in lower bumper can also be saved.

Being the flagship model in the current model line of smart, at least at the initial stage, an updated forfour Electric Drive will likely need to have an improved electric motor. The current model offers a peak power of 82 horsepower (60 kW) and constant power 55 HP (41 kW). Thanks to the battery with capacity of 17.6 kWh small quadruple vehicle can travel up to 150 kilometers without recharging.

We expect that the novelty will receive enlarged battery so that it can travel about 200 kilometers. A more powerful motor, replacing the current three-phase synchronous motor, also can be in work, providing the best acceleration to 100 km/h than the current 12.7 seconds.
