New Ford Bronco: crash test results

The American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards crash-test models with the highest Top Safety Pick rating, but the new Ford Bronco will not get it. The SUV performed poorly in safety tests: in a rear-end collision, the car seats do not provide sufficient protection for passengers. The headlights of the Bronco were also criticized – experts considered that the dipped beam did not sufficiently illuminate the road, and this finally deprived the model of the opportunity to qualify for the Top Safety Pick rating.

The four-door Bronco, which is already available for order in the USA, took part in the tests. In order to qualify for the Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick +, the model must perform well in all six stages of strength and safety tests, including repairs to the excellent performance of the auxiliary systems. And since 2020, a check of the front optics has been added to this list.

Bronco did not complete all the tests. For example, in a situation where a vehicle of the same mass, moving at a speed of 32 kilometers per hour, crashes into a stationary SUV from behind, the seats provide insufficient protection for the neck of the driver and passengers. The SUV was also criticized for its dim low beam.

The rating of the models that were able to get the highest rating in the Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick + will be published on the website in early 2022.

Ford is likely to improve the safety of the Bronco with a facelift that is already in development. However, the updated model will not debut until 2024.
