Western editions were able to capture the no-nonsense prototype of the updated Honda Civic 2022. The prototype was spotted on the streets of Beijing, China.
While the exterior of the new Civic shouldn’t be too surprising at the moment, with patent photographs of this car already published (pictured below), it follows in the footsteps of the Honda Accord and boasts a more conservative design. At the front, there is a small protruding false radiator grille, which is framed by thinner headlights. Also, the novelty has a wide lower air intake and C-shaped fog lamp housings.
The new Honda Civic has a streamlined body that seems rather boring compared to the current Honda Civic.
Additional details of the updated exterior are hard to see, but previous photos have shown the model will have a sloping roof and an Accord-style cabin shape. We can also expect a discreet rear end with large taillights and a trunk with an integrated spoiler.
Honda said little about the upcoming model, but it is known that the 2022 Civic will be offered in sedan and hatchback bodies. Further production of the coupe model was abandoned due to low demand.
The engine range for the Honda Civic is expected to include a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 158 hp. (187 Nm) – it will be basic. It should be joined by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 174 hp. (220 Nm).
Honda has also confirmed plans for more powerful versions of the Civic, the Si and Type R. The latter are rumored to boast 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engines with 205 and 306 hp. respectively.
