The new Cupra Leon 2021 model year, which started selling just a few months ago, has recently passed moose testing.
With the safety systems turned on, it made a good impression at a speed of 75 km/h. However, to pass the test, the speed of the novelty must exceed 77 km/h. And it did it at 79 km / h without hitting a single cone, unlike its platform-sharing sibling, the Volkswagen Golf Mk8, which failed the test earlier this year.
The 2021 hybrid Cupra Leon made an impression at the slalom assessment, where it performed better than one of its biggest competitors, the Ford Focus ST, with a top speed of 80 km/h. However, disabling the ESC wasn’t a good idea, as it made the Spanish plug-in hybrid hot hatch less maneuverable.
The Cupra Leon plug-in hybrid engine is equipped with a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine and an electric motor. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 225 km/h. The 13 kWh lithium-ion battery can be charged in 3.5 hours in the Wallbox, which gives it an electric power reserve of 55-60 km / h on the WLTP cycle. Prices start at $ 46,074.
Other powertrain options include a 242-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 296-horsepower variant of the same engine. The 306-horsepower, 400-Nm recoil unit is reserved for the Sportstourer station wagon, which is also equipped with all-wheel drive.
