New Polo GTI spotted on tests

Volkswagen introduced the updated Polo a couple of months ago in all trim levels except the top one. But a couple of weeks later, the company announced the release of the top performance GTI, promising that the official premiere would take place before the end of June.

It’s almost the end of the month, which means that the debut will take place soon, but on the eve of this event, the photo spies caught a disguised prototype in a serial body. Volkswagen has traditionally used camouflage in body color, which should be misleading. The masking applied to the headlights and taillights also gives the impression that we are looking at the current VW Polo GTI, when in fact it is an updated hot hatch.

The main feature of the restyling is the GTI badge in the center of the tailgate, right below the VW logo. The new Golf GTI Mk8 has a similar look.

As for whether there are any changes under the hood, representatives of the company will tell us about it soon. The previous Polo GTI originally came with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 197 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. It was originally only offered with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission before the 6-speed manual version was introduced. However, over time, the three-pedal modification was discontinued.

In addition to eliminating the manual gearbox, VW made another change to the Polo GTI with DSG, increasing the 2.0 TSI to 204 hp. at constant torque.

We’ll have to wait and see if the updated GTI gets other changes beyond the design and technical updates introduced with the regular Polo.
