According to Skoda insiders, as the Rapid grows in size, it will receive more equipment and a more powerful engine. In addition, the new sedan will acquire a new name – Slavia.
The all-new Rapid will hit showrooms early next year. Based on the localized MQB-A0-IN platform, the as yet undisclosed Skoda was spotted by spies on the Mumbai-Pune highway.
While the car has a significant amount of camouflage, features such as a new-generation Skoda grille, sharply defined LED headlights and a flowing roofline stand out. While the new 2022 Skoda Rapid will share many of the body panels with its sibling, the VW Virtus, and its base profile will be similar, it will also receive many new parts to help give it its own personality.
The Skoda Rapid replacement will be around 4480mm in size, making it a significant length longer than the current generation Rapid (4413mm). The 2,651mm wheelbase should allow passengers to really stretch on the inside, and since the new Rapid is also 50mm wider, the cabin will be more spacious. The boot capacity is expected to exceed 520 liters, making it the best in its class.
With a spacious cabin, more upmarket interior and powerful engines, Skoda will also reposition its new sedan. The new generation will cost closer to Honda City.
Rapid 2022 is expected to receive: wireless charging, My Skoda car connectivity technology, a new infotainment screen interface, convenient air conditioning controls and ventilated seats, and is also likely to be the best equipped car in its class after launch.
Remote start and remote air conditioning are unlikely to be included in the new Skoda sedan.
The Rapid successor will be powered by two TSI engines. It is a 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine with 115 hp. The 1.0 TSI will drive the front wheels via 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter with automatic transmission. The larger engine will be a 1.5 TSI with 150 hp. and 250 Nm.
