New Toyota Mirai launches in Europe. The Japanese concern has released all the details of the European version of the fuel cell electric vehicle along with a new gallery of images. The Toyota Mirai marks a sharp departure from the original, switching to the rear-wheel drive GA-L modular platform. The car turned out to be longer, wider and lower than its predecessor.
The total power output of the Mirai fuel cell powertrain is increased to 179 hp. The new lithium-ion battery is not only more energy efficient than the previous model’s NiMH unit, but is also physically smaller and lighter.
Toyota has placed three high-pressure hydrogen tanks in a T-shaped configuration, increasing both fuel capacity by 30%. The tanks hold 5.6 kg of hydrogen, and their location contributes to the Mirai’s lower center of gravity and 50:50 weight balance. The large tank capacity allows the new Toyota Mirai to travel 650 km, while refueling takes only five minutes or less.
European buyers will be offered a choice between three trim levels: Mid, High and High +. The entry-level mid-range features 19-inch alloy wheels, 12.3-inch multimedia, 2-band headlights with automatic high beams, remote-controlled dual-zone air conditioning, heated front seats, smart entry and push start button and 8-inch touchscreen .
