New Uni-V liftback: something strange from Changan

One of the main premieres of the automobile exhibition in Guangzhou, China, was a liftback from Changan called Uni-V. The announcement of the model took place this summer, and now the car was officially shown.

The car became the third model in the Uni lineup, which now includes only the Uni-K and Uni-T crossovers.

In terms of dimensions, the Uni-V is close to the Skoda Octavia: the length of the car is 4680 mm, the width is 1838 mm, and the height is 1430 mm. The wheelbase of the “five-door” is 2750 mm versus 2686 mm for the Skoda, but the new Changan will have to compete not with the Octavia, but with the local MG6, GAC Trumpchi Empow and Hyundai Lafesta.

From the Uni series crossovers, the liftback inherited a characteristic design with a frameless radiator grille, narrowed optics, embossed sidewalls, and retractable door handles. In addition, the car sports 18-inch wheels, a massive diffuser, large exhaust pipes and a spoiler that can automatically rise at high speeds.

In the cabin, a compact oval steering wheel with a digital instrument cluster is located above it. A camera is installed on the steering wheel itself, the purpose of which is not only to assess the driver’s fatigue, but also to recognize his face (Face ID system). Otherwise, the interior design of the Uni-V is practically no different from the Uni crossovers.

The liftback is based on the MPA platform. The basic version of the Uni-V is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine with a capacity of 188 horsepower, paired with an 8-band “automatic” from Aisin. Later, the model should have a modification with a 2-liter “turbo four”. But the liftback already has the Super Race mode (combat settings), and it is activated by pressing only one bright button on the center console.

Changan Uni-V will go on sale in China in early 2022. Whether it is planned to enter other markets is not specified yet.

Although it is definitely an unfinished replica, I would be interested in contact details, anyway. Maybe this could be an interesting project.
