The design of any new Volkswagen Golf is unlikely to be a surprise – the company from Wolfsburg has generally adopted the traditional approach in his global bestseller, and it’s safe to say that the upcoming Golf Variant will not change anything. The novelty was photographed by journalists.
The prototype was spotted testing on public roads in Germany and had almost no camouflage. The front part is clearly not a secret as it is identical to the hatchback Golf 8. The back has tape covering part of the back lights, but everything else seems to be in its final form.
Although the Golf Variant is not the most anticipated new model of the year, it is an important addition to the European portfolio of Volkswagen. Despite the boom of SUVs and crossovers, the Old Continent still want a practical wagon, the new Golf Variant will be a direct competitor to the Ford Focus, Skoda Octavia, SEAT Leon, Peugeot 308 and others.
Golf Variant should share the engine lineup with the hatchback Golf that means that there will be available a rich choice of petrol, diesel and electrified powertrains. There is no information about the new version of the Golf R and Golf GTD, but we hope that these versions will join the lineup.
However, for the universal is more important than cargo space. Given that the new Golf has the same Luggage compartment volume of 380 liters (13.4 per cubic feet) as its predecessor, we would not be surprised if the new Golf Variant will offer the same 605 liters (21.3 per cubic foot) as before.
The official debut of the novelty will take place in the next few months. Probably next year the Golf Variant will be added to the robust Golf Alltrack.
