In the European market, Toyota Yaris is the most popular model of the brand (157,240 cars were sold in the first 9 months of this year, not counting the Cross version), and in 80% of cases European customers prefer the hybrid version. Previously, the Yaris was only produced at the Valenciennes plant: the French plant has been producing its only model for twenty years.
Now Toyota wants to make the most of the enterprise in the Czech Republic, inherited from the joint venture with PSA Group. It is planned to launch the production of cars on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform: in addition to the Yaris model, this will be the Aygo X cross-hatchback, which is expected on the market in 2022.
For its plans, the Japanese company has already invested 180 million euros in the modernization of the production site (now it can produce hybrids), and the plant has switched to a 3-shift schedule of activities. Toyota believes that otherwise the required production volumes cannot be achieved: by 2025, the brand plans to sell 1.5 million cars on the European market annually. The modular platform, as well as the electrification of the model range, should help solve this problem.
Earlier it was reported that the Toyota company “live” showed the electric crossover Toyota bZ4X in Japan.
