The head of research and development at Porsche said that the all-electric version of the Macan crossover will hit the market in 2023 and may even receive a new name.
Porsche’s head of research and development, Michael Steiner, has shared some details about the upcoming electric version of the Macan crossover. Prototypes of the electric car are already being tested both at the factory test site and on public roads – all electric Makans will travel about three million kilometers before the public premiere in 2023. According to the top manager, the new crossover will be a typical Porsche with an electric power plant and will certainly become the sportiest model in the segment – even sportier than the current petrol Macan.
Like the Taycan, Porsche’s new SUV features an 800-volt electrical system, but charges even faster thanks to an optimized charging process. The electric Macan will be built on the Premium Platform Electric modular architecture developed in collaboration with Audi and will receive a battery with a capacity of 100 kilowatt-hours. Steiner noted that several modifications of the Makan with different capacities are planned for release. Moreover, there is a possibility that the electric car will receive its own name – which one, the manufacturer has not yet decided.
