North America will remain without affordable Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz will stop selling the A-Class sedan in the US, and in addition to the sedan, Canada will also lose the 5-door version of the model, which was not sold in the US. This is reported by the publication Carscoops with reference to the received official confirmation of the local representative office of Mercedes-Benz. Available cars of the German brand will leave the line at the end of the 2022 model year.

Mercedes-Benz said the decision was made as part of “optimizing the product offering strategy.” In 2023, the Mercedes-Benz GLA compact crossover will be considered the most affordable Mercedes-Benz car in North America. Whether sales of the “four-door coupe” Mercedes CLA will be curtailed is not yet known.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class appeared in the US in 2019. According to Automotive News, in the first year of sales, the brand was able to sell 17.6 thousand compact four-doors there, but in 2021 sales of this car fell to 8.1 thousand copies. At the same time, the Mercedes-Benz GLB crossover sold 26.7 thousand cars in 2021.

In addition to the reorientation of customer interests towards crossovers, its excessive saturation is also mentioned as one of the possible reasons for the reduction of the Mercedes-Benz model range. Representatives of car dealerships say that buyers are simply confused in the wide model range of the brand. Recall that in Ukraine today the Mercedes-Benz A-Class model is sold in both body types at a base price of $39,300.
