Volkswagen has introduced a new modification of the Taos compact crossover called Basecamp, which is most adapted for off-road driving. The vehicle will go on sale in the United States.
The novelty is based on the concept car of the same name, shown two weeks earlier. Like the prototype, the production crossover received additional protection for the lower part of the body, as well as wheel arch extensions with integrated mud flaps.
At the same time, the car that goes on sale will not have off-road tires, a roof rack, additional LED lighting elements and a special grid section in the trunk for attaching various special equipment.
North American sales of the new Volkswagen Taos and Taos Basecamp will kick off in June. In the US, the crossover will be available with an uncontested 1.5-liter petrol turbo engine developing 160 hp. and 249 Nm of torque. The front-wheel drive version is equipped with an eight-speed “automatic”, and with a full one – a seven-speed robot with two clutches. Taos prices start at $ 22,995.
