my name is oliver gavin and i’ve driven for corvette racing for 20 years so my official role with corvette is i’m a corvette brand ambassador and so after all of the years of driving with them and competing with them and and driving all of those different generations of corvettes i’m bringing all that knowledge that passion that that know-how and transferring it over into the road car and then helping to advise the likes of freddie and others driving the car and passing on my passion for the car to them she flies oh my 100 mile an hour already so when i first went to the united states i was driving for a very small team it was a one-off opportunity and i loved the way of racing out there it was very raw the tracks are very old-school and you know aggressive and maybe a little bit risky which appealed to me i love the challenge and i started off with corvette racing at the sebring 12 hours in 2002 and i won that very first race i did with them so it was brilliant great fun i’ve had an amazing career with them and you know won 51 races with them i’ve won five le mans won five championships in the united states and so it’s been a fantastic journey amazing team to drive for and work with and an amazing team with so much heritage not to 60 just over three seconds 184 mile an hour top speed that isn’t sports car fast that’s super car fast so to be to be a sports car driver and to operate at the highest level at le mans 24 hours spa spa 24 hours all the daytona 24 hours the big sports car races that we’ve done it’s speed it’s endurance it’s being smart at the right times it’s using the machinery in the right way but getting the most out of it and having a great team of people around you so all of those the crews the engineers the tyre technicians all of those people are integral to making sure that you’re getting the most from the car and ultimately standing on that top step and taking the victory oh corvettes a bit of a wrestling match on track but this one it’s with ya it’s a lover not a fighter the very first corvette was built in 1953 that was the c1 and then an engineer called zora arcos duntov came to the company and he was he’s seen as the father of corvette and bringing the car on the first stingray the c2 stingray and then after that all the different generations c3 c4 c5 and c5 is where i pick up my story with with the racing program but we’re trying to enhance all of that heritage that’s been developed with the corvette all of that know-how all of that feel all of that let’s say character but the car has always been front engined and it’s been v8 now with this eighth generation of car it’s mid-engined and having the engine behind the driver feeds you right in the thick of it you know exactly what’s going on and what’s going on he’s all good oh fred watching him out on track today he’s been brilliant to watch he’s been attacking the corners he’s been really carrying a lot of speed in every time he’s stopped pulled up against next to us always smiling i’m a northerner i love a bargain stick some gravy on it i’m sold you
