One of five copies of the pre-war “alpha” will sell for 16-22 million euros

In February 2019 at auction classic cars Retromobile, organized by Artcurial Motorcars will be auctioned one of five copies of the 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta. A car with a body by Italian Touring estimated at 16-22 million euros.

Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B, in fact, was a road version of the racing car built on the chassis of the 8C 35 Grand Prix. The coupé was equipped with inline eight-cylinder engine capacity of 2.9 liters. The unit is equipped with two driven superchargers Roots, gave 218 and later 177 horsepower. The 8C 2900B was completed with fully independent suspension with coil springs and hydraulic shock absorbers in front and rear axle with transverse leaf springs in the rear.

In 1938 the factory team, Alfa Corse built four rough terrain version of the 8C 2900B to participate in the race Mille Miglia. Three cars with body type “Roadster” by Atelier Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera is equipped with uprated to 228 forces the engines. The fourth, prepared for the pilot Clemente Biondetti got the 3.0 unit I8 from the Alfa Romeo Tipo 308 Grand Prix, the capacity of which was 300 horsepower.
