Today we will test the Opel Mokka car — it is a compact urban crossover with an attractive design and good equipment, it has already managed to win fans in its niche and compete with its classmates. What is this kid really capable of? Go figure it out.

Mokka design and dimensions

Yes, what Opel cannot be blamed for is the refutation of the modern thesis that when creating a car design in 2021, everyone is trying to be like VW Golf only with their individual modifications. In Mokka, the designers did everything possible and impossible so that he would not be like the others.

But we can still say that the Peugeot 2008 is well hidden inside here, or rather its platform, wheelbase and power plant. Everything else is developed in Germany and it is noticeable: Opel Mokka is more solid and mature.

The CMP platform allows the concern’s new models to freely combine various energy sources in one car, as a result, the Mokka can be either fully electric with a power reserve of 320 km, or with a classic internal combustion engine.

The wheelbase of the Opel Mokka is 50 mm. shorter than Peugeot 2008 and this is a big plus, because the Mokka is a very nimble car in the city, and the length is as much as 150 mm. less. Also, the Mokka has a smaller front, rear overhang and a shorter rear rack, which means that the trunk is also smaller: only 350 liters. Separately, we would like to note that the trunk opening button is located on the rear bumper — this is inconvenient, since you have to smear your hands.

The clearance of the Mokka is 185 mm. – this is a very good indicator.

In our test instance, a full-fledged matrix optics with automatic high beam is installed — very cool, as for a B-class SUV.

Opel Mokka 2021 engine

We have a Mokka on the test with a 3-cylinder Puretech EB2DTS engine with a volume of 1.2 liters. with a capacity of 130 hp and a torque of 230 Nm. This is not a new engine, it is time-tested and has proven itself well, but I would like to note one significant disadvantage – the lack of hydraulic compensators.

The AISIN 8-speed hydromechanical gearbox is paired with the engine.

The claimed acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 9.2 s., but unfortunately this figure is far from true and no matter how we tried to get closer to it, we could not do it faster than 10.5 s.
Fuel consumption in the urban cycle was 8.5 liters per 100 km, not a very economical indicator, but considering what kind of engine is installed here and how it has to be untwisted, it was not worth expecting anything else.

Opel Mokka Interior

The Opel Mokka interior is charmingly modest, cozy and very technological: large monitors — 12 inches instrument panel and 10 inches multimedia system.
There is not much space in the cabin, the doorways are narrow enough and if the steering wheel is extended to the driver, then you can often beat against it when landing. The pedal assembly is also strongly carried out into the cabin and you constantly want to move back from it so as not to keep your legs bent. This car is definitely not suitable for people with tall stature. Another disadvantage of the Mokka interior is the high threshold — when you exit the car, you constantly stumble through it.
But the front seats are very comfortable, although there is no lumbar adjustment.

If you look at the architecture of the torpedo, a lot can remind you of the good old models, and now it has become fashionable again — the upper part envelops the driver, and in the lower part, on the contrary, there is a lot of free space.

The materials of the interior are mainly cheap plastic, sheathed with artificial leather in places of contact, but at the same time there are practically no creaks and vibrations.

There is very little space in the back row, even for children, and there is nothing to add here.

The noise insulation in Opel Mokka is good, visibility is also at a height, the blind spot monitoring system helps a lot.

Mokka suspension and brakes

The Opel Mokka suspension, unlike the Peugeot 2008, seems much more elastic, it is very rigid on irregularities, but it does not make excessive knocks and despite the fact that the Mokka beam is well controlled from behind. Thanks to the clamped suspension, even on the cobblestones, the rear of the car does not lose traction.

The brake pedal in Opel Mokka is very informative, clear and linear, slowing down to 0 km. it took us 38.5 meters — an excellent result.

Opel Mokka is a city car with a fairly rigid suspension, with excellent handling for its class, excellent brakes and a good engine, it will give a vivid impression of driving, but, unfortunately, only two people, a very small space in the cabin for rear passengers will pose a question to potential buyers about the possible choice of another model in this class.
