The GAC GS8 is already preparing for a generational change at home. It is expected that the outdated Fiat platform will be replaced by a self-developed GAC trolley, and a hybrid modification will appear in the lineup. Moreover, the power plant for the latter will be borrowed from Toyota.
For now, the model can be viewed in official images published by the GAC press service. The SUV will receive upgraded LED optics, a new radiator grille with a “space” pattern and, most likely, will acquire a digital instrument panel.
The model will be based on the GPMA (Global Platform Modular Architecture) architecture, and a hybrid version with the installation of THS (Toyota Hybrid System) with an electromechanical variator is expected. At the same time, the Chinese automaker can use its own gasoline engines and another battery.
In the meantime, the model of the current generation is available in China with a two-liter “turbo four” for 252 horsepower, which is combined with a six-speed automatic Aisin and all-wheel drive.
