Porsche 911 Carrera: now, only Turbo

Over time, the German brand is more new members of the sports family generation 911 992. Soon, buyers will be available hybrid propulsion system, but buy a 911 Carrera with naturally aspirated engines no longer work.

The head of the sports division of the Porsche GT, Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, said in an interview that the use of aspirated engine in the Carrera is not possible due to hardware limitations. The fact that the 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which is also installed in the Cayman GTS and GT4 just won’t fit in the engine compartment of the new 911 Carrera.

“The 4.0-liter engine in the GTS can not be rotated 180 degrees to be comfortably accommodated under the bonnet of the 911. Because of this beznadziejnie engines will be installed in the upgraded Carrera.”

He further said that it would be too expensive to develop a naturally aspirated engine that would be compatible with the updated Carrera. This would require many changes that will ultimately be impractical and would not justify itself in financial terms.

In addition, he said that he would fight for the preservation of a manual transmission, although he admits that the day will come when 911 will “lose” the clutch pedal.

“I have many times defended the need to use manual transmission. But sooner or later, “mechanic will no longer be offered”.
