super SUVs they’re very much a thing these days aren’t they at the top of the tree we’ve got the Rolls Royce Cullinan and the Bentley been tiger then there’s the really quick stuff the Lamborghini Eris the Jeep track Hawk and then we have the sub-genre of mid-sized hot rods that just happen to be pretty good on the school run too now we could have brought along a load of cars today including the 503 horsepower stereo QV the Audi sq5 at a push but what we’ve got here is the Porsche Macan turbo performance pack and the Mercedes GL c63 s two cars with differing philosophies the Porsche more focused on handling finesse and the Mercedes all about brute force so in the Porsche you get a v6 twin-turbo with 434 horsepower but the Mercedes is much better here you get a four liter twin-turbo v8 producing 503 horsepower and as you’ll see in our drag race unsurprisingly it’s the Mercedes that’s a fair bit quicker it’s nor the 62 times of 3.8 seconds is a full 6/10 up on the Porsche but it does cost more 76 grand for the Mercedes 69 and a half to the porker let’s face it most of these cars are going to live out their lives as style chariots not really as the engineers intended so the way they look is important and for me it’s gotta be the Merc just those pumped up arches the widened track it just sums up the car perfectly a larger-than-life character lots of noise lots of fury they get me wrong the Porsche is more of a precision instrument but hey who wants precision when you’ve got power
