A complete operating system from Google will appear on the cars of the brands included in the PSA, already in 2023. At the moment, promised to preinstall the Automotive Andriod OS will be on new Citroen, Peugeot, Opel and DS, regardless of class, segment and body type.
So the new OS can get as compact models like the Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208, and flagship – for example, Opel Insignia and Peugeot 508, as well as different-sized crossovers – for example, Citroen C5 Aircross.
The transition to the new shell, according to the initiators of the project, will significantly expand the functionality of on-Board multimedia systems, especially given the existence of a permanent Internet connection. Drivers will be able to install new applications “over the air”, to use more advanced voice assistants, and the like. In addition, according to the cooperation PSA and Google could intensify its work on creation of systems of Autonomous control.
How it will affect the decision on the car of the partner of PSA group, FCA, is not specified. Earlier it was reported that in the framework of the Alliance Stellantis all its brands will be able to combine efforts to develop new models, however, FCA got the latest version of the original multimedia system Uconnect only in the current year.
The first production car with Android OS on Board was the electric version of the compact crossover Volvo XC40.
