American consulting agency J.D. Power has published its annual car reliability rating, which is based on a survey of owners of 100 cars of each brand released in 2019. Over the year, the situation has noticeably changed: this time KIA, Buick and Hyundai were in the lead, and the last three places went to Volvo, Ram and Land Rover. Lexus, which has been number one nine times over the past 11 years, has fallen to sixth, one position behind Toyota.

J.D. Power ranks cars based on the number of problems owners have encountered in their three years of operation. This takes into account both serious defects and minor malfunctions such as a failing audio system.

At the top of the list this time was the KIA brand with 145 complaints per 100 vehicles. In second place is Buick (147), third and fourth – Hyundai (148) and its premium “daughter” Genesis (155). Toyota and Lexus were fifth and sixth with 158 and 159 problems respectively, followed by Porsche (162), Dodge (166), Cadillac (168) and Chevrolet (171) in the top ten. The least reliable were Volvo (256 complaints), Ram (266) and Land Rover (284).

The average indicator for the industry has noticeably worsened, although before that, analysts recorded an increase in reliability. In 2021, it was 192 problems per 100 vehicles, compared to 121 in 2020. It is noteworthy that the current leader, KIA, received only 97 complaints a year ago, and Lexus – 81.

The Porsche 911 was once again the top model. The Toyota Corolla, BMW 4 Series, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Chevrolet Impala, Hyundai Sonata, Lincoln MKZ and Ford Mustang were also the best in their classes. As for the SUV segment, analysts did not choose an absolute winner here, naming nine models with different dimensions and price tags: Lexus NX, Hyundai Santa Fe, Buick Envision, Lexus UX, Chevrolet Suburban, Buick Encore, Lexus RX, KIA Sorento and Porsche Cayenne .
