Renault has come up with a name for a new crossover

Renault has announced the premiere of a new crossover – it will take place in early 2022 – at the same time revealing its name. The model, which will replace the outdated Kadjar in the European lineup, will be named Austral. The name comes from the Latin word australis (translated as “southern”) and is present in one form or another in many European languages, including French. Renault Austral sales will start in Europe next spring.

Earlier it became known that in 2022 Kadjar will be excluded from the European Renault model range. It will be replaced by a model with a different name to avoid associations with its predecessor, which never managed to gain popularity in the market. Until recently, the novelty was known under the codename HHN, but now the company has revealed its “trade” name, borrowed from Latin.

According to preliminary data, with the change of generation and a new name, the positioning of the crossover will also change: it will receive an original and more sporty body, which is confirmed by a fresh teaser video. Austral will be based on the CMF-C platform from the current Qashqai, and the design will be carried out with an eye to the recent Renault Megane E-Tech.

The emergence of an all-electric Austral built on the CMF-EV architecture is not excluded. According to preliminary data, such an electric car will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of 87 kilowatt-hours, one charge of which will be enough for 500 kilometers. Most likely, the model will not appear on the market until 2023.

Although it is definitely an unfinished replica, I would be interested in contact details, anyway. Maybe this could be an interesting project.
