General Motors has discontinued the V8 LT5 compressor engine, which was sold in “box” form, that is, as a separate spare part for enthusiasts and ateliers. This is the most powerful passenger engine of the concern – with a working volume of 6.2 liters, it develops 755 hp. and 696 Nm.
The LT5 engine was first unveiled publicly at the 2018 SEMA tuning show in Las Vegas by Chevrolet Perfomance. From the factory, it was installed only on the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 2019, which was produced in a circulation of about three thousand copies. Subsequently, the power unit could be purchased in the US through the Chevrolet Performance Parts network for $ 18,000.
As reported by Motor Trend, the LT5 engine is no longer available to order. So now GM’s most powerful lightweight unit is the LT5’s “little brother” – a 6.2-liter V8 named LT4. This engine is also a compressor engine, it is installed on such cars as Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C7), Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Cadillac CTS-V and CT5-V Blackwing. Power ranges from 640 to 668 hp and torque ranges from 855 to 893 Nm.
