The Asian organization ASEAN NCAP assessed the safety of the updated Toyota Hilux with a 2.8-liter diesel engine, which is also sold in our country. According to the results of crash tests, the pickup truck earned five stars out of five. The same rating was awarded to the co-platform Fortuner.
An updated Toyota Hilux diesel pickup truck for the Thai market took part in the tests. The test program included a collision with a barrier at a speed of 64 kilometers per hour and an overlap of 40 percent (such a test is conducted by the European EuroNCAP), as well as a side impact on a moving cart with a deformable module. According to the point system, not only the safety of adult passengers and children was assessed, but also the operation of security systems.
According to the results of crash tests, the 2020 Toyota Hilux earned 32.93 points out of 36 possible for the safety of front passengers, 44.04 points out of 49 for the safety of children and 10.95 points out of 18 for preventive safety technology. The total rating was 83.42 points, which corresponds to five stars out of five possible.
Similar ratings were given to the co-platformer Fortuner, which did not actually take part in the crash test.
