Bernhard Mayer on 31 July will leave a post of the General Director of Skoda, which he held for nearly five years. The reason for withdrawal is not specified in the official statement is filled with rave reviews of his “many years of successful work” and “outstanding contribution to improving the reputation of the brand.” VW Group boss Herbert Diess called Meyer “one of the most experienced automotive managers” and thanked “for almost two decades particularly successful years, first at Porsche, then at the Skoda”. Apparently, Bernhard goes not only Skoda, but also from the entire Volkswagen group. A successor will be appointed by the Board of Directors in August. Who will it be – is unclear.
Retired, but even earlier – in December he will turn 61 years old. Bernhard was trained as a mechanic, but he started his career as account Manager with clients in the firm Nixdorf Computer AG (1984-1988). Then the Germans managed to work in BMW (1988-2001) and Porsche (2001-2015), and the Skoda headed in November 2015.
In the reign of Mayer (“one of the most successful 125-year history of the company”) was established Kodiaq, Karoq, Kamiq (even two), Scala and electric Enyaq iV (pictured). Sales rose to 1.3 million vehicles per year, the number of customers around the world has tripled.
Meyer’s resignation is only part of a reshuffle at the VW Group, which began with a brand of Volkswagen: the first of July it was headed by Ralph Brandstetter, sliding the Herbert Diess. It was expected that at the helm of the Volkswagen stand Oliver bloom, why patronage in Porsche goes to the Mayer, however, the Supervisory Board decided otherwise. Evil tongues, for example, the newspaper Handelsblatt, saying that the contract with Bernhard not renewed because Skoda “stole sales” at Volkswagen. However, these accusations have already been made in 2017.
