Skoda Slavia, what’s under the hood?

The Skoda Slavia sedan, announced in early October, has not yet dropped its protective camouflage, but gradually the automaker began to publish its characteristics.

Recall that the Skoda Slavia model is focused on the Indian market (although it may later appear in other countries), where it will replace the Rapid. Note that the current Indian Rapid is not a liftback at all, but a redesigned Volkswagen Polo sedan.

However, the new Skoda Slavia model will not be an original development either. This is a modified and modernized version of the 2017 Brazilian Volkswagen Virtus model. The Slavia is noticeably larger than the Rapid, and in some respects it even surpassed the first generation Octavia (A4 series). The wheelbase of the novelty is 2651 mm, the length is 4541 mm. Moreover, the distance between the axles of the Slavia and Virtus is the same, but thanks to the original plumage, the Skoda car turned out to be 59 mm longer than the Volkswagen at once. The width of the novelty reaches 1752 mm, and the height is 1487 mm.

The Skoda Slavia sedan is based on the MQB-A0-IN architecture, that is, a version of the global platform adapted and simplified specifically for India. The choice will be offered turbo units 1.0 TSI (115 hp) and 1.5 TSI (150 hp). The basic 3-cylinder engine is combined with a manual transmission or a classic 6-speed “automatic”, and a 4-cylinder engine – with the same “mechanics” or a 7-speed “robot” DSG.

The new Skoda Slavia sedan will have up to 6 airbags, and among the options there are virtual instruments, a rear view camera, and cruise control. The debut of the novelty will take place very soon, sales in the Indian market will start next year. The original Volkswagen Virtus in an adapted version will follow in India.

Earlier it was reported that Skoda will stop production of one of the Fabia versions for electric cars.
