The novelty will be based on the same architecture as the sixth generation Wagon R kei-car. The car received a “boxy” body, sliding rear doors, and a hybrid power plant.
The novelty resembles the popular in Japan Suzuki Hustler, but has a higher and more spacious body. The round optics of the car hints that when creating the model, the brand’s designers gravitated towards retro motives, which are increasingly manifested in Japanese cars in general and in Suzuki models in particular.
The length, width and height of the novelty are 3 395, 1 475 and 1695 mm, respectively. That is, the novelty also belongs to the category of kei cars. Compared to the Wagon R, the new model is 45 mm higher.
All modifications of the Wagon R Smile will be equipped with a 0.66-liter R06D petrol engine. The engine power is 49 hp. and 58 Nm of torque. Buyers can opt for the mild hybrid version, which also includes a compact electric motor. All versions of the novelty will be equipped with a variator, and the drive can be either front or full. The declared fuel consumption is 3.9-4.4 l / 100 km, depending on the configuration.
Surround cameras, a multimedia complex with a 9-inch screen, a head-up display, adaptive crisis control and all-LED optics will be offered as optional equipment. There are 12 paint options to choose from: eight two-tone (with a contrasting roof) and four monochromatic.
The new Wagon R Smile will be on offer from 1,296,900 to 1,716,000 yen, which is roughly $ 11,800 to $ 15,600 at current exchange rates. The company intends to sell 5,000 copies of the Wagon R Smile per month. No shipments outside Japan have been reported.
