Lightyear from the Netherlands was going to put its One solar electric car on stream in 2021 (it is presented in 2019). But the restrictions associated with the pandemic and lack of funds delayed serial production. Now the Dutch are calling a new date – 2022. And they are glad that they received for this purpose financing in the amount of $ 110 million with the help of one of the largest international insurance companies in the Netherlands, Cooperation DELA. The funds were also provided by art collector Joop van Kaldenborg.

The length, width, height of the model are 5057x1898x1426 mm, the trunk holds 780/1701 liters, the air resistance coefficient is only 0.2.

The car is five-seater. It uses four motor-wheels with an unnamed power (but the total torque is known – 1920 Nm), which have an efficiency of 97%. The body is a combination of aluminum and carbon fiber.

“It’s great to see the investor recognition that shows their confidence in Lightyear,” said Lex Hefslot, CEO and co-founder of Lightyear.

If everything goes according to plan, customers will start receiving unusual electric cars in 2022 with a power reserve of 725 km on a charge according to the WLTP standard. And this is the cruising range only from the traction battery. But the car is covered with solar panels with a total area of five “squares”. One hour in the bright midday sun provides the One model with a 12 km free run. You need to pay 149,000 euros for this car.

Although it is definitely an unfinished replica, I would be interested in contact details, anyway. Maybe this could be an interesting project.
