Dodge has announced a new crossover, which should be a relative of the Hornet, which has not yet debuted. The most interesting thing is that the model can be based on the platform of one of the Chinese SUVs.
Mexico will be the main market for the novelty. Local Dodge (Stellantis) has already circulated the first photos of the camouflaged prototype, whose name has not yet been announced. The model is still being tested, according to company representatives.
Looking closely at the car shown in the pictures, you can find familiar features. The camouflage hides the Chinese GAC Trumpchi GS5, which is now being sold in then market as well.
However, Dodge is not the first time to use other people’s models, replacing them with their own emblems. In the same Mexico, they sell the Attitude sedan, which is a redesigned version of the pre-styling Mitsubishi Mirage. In the same market, another four-door was previously available – the Neon, which was a redesigned Fiat Tipo. Given that the GAC and Dodge are long-term partners, operating a sister brand car will not be a big problem for an American.
Recall that the second generation of the GAC Trumpchi crossover was introduced in 2018. In terms of dimensions, the car is comparable to the Mitsubishi Outlander. In China, the car is sold with a 1.5-liter “turbo four” with a capacity of 169 horsepower, aggregated with a 6-band automatic transmission from Aisin. The drive can only be front.
