Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR 86 get a special version of the Cup Car Basic, which opens the way to professional racing. Future owners will be able to take part, among other things, in the Toyota Gazoo Racing GR 86/BRZ Cup monoseries.

Most of the changes are aimed at improving safety and reliability on the track. For this, a frame with horizontal arcs is installed, and the driver’s seat is equipped with mounts for a six-point belt. Another oil cooler has been added for better cooling. The rims are deliberately left steel, as the owners will change them anyway.

The powertrain is the same as the road version available in Japan. A 2.4-liter boxer four with a capacity of 235 hp works in the engine compartment. and a torque of 250 Nm. The unit is combined with six-speed mechanics.

Subaru intends to produce 30 copies of the BRZ Cup Car Basic every year, Toyota has not yet announced the number. Prices are already known: BRZ will cost 3,338,500 yen ($28,900), GR 86 – 3,334,000 yen ($28,900).

There will be five races in the Toyota Gazoo Racing GR 86/BRZ Cup monoseries this season. The first race will take place on July 16 at Fuji Speedway, followed by Sportsland Sugo, Tokachi Speedway, Suzuka Circuit and Okayama International Circuit. Two classes participate: Professional (professional riders) and Clubman (amateurs).
