At the Mexican company Saltillo, the production of motors of the new Tornado line has started, and the launch officially began on November 22, but the company did not make this fact widely public. Most likely, so far we are talking only about test production, because there is very little information even about the power unit itself.
The new engine is factory code GME T6. It was created by the former concern FCA and is widely unified with the serial turbo four GME (Global Medium Engine) with a displacement of 2.0 liters, which are installed on models of the brands Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Jeep. So, the 6-cylinder Tornado engine has a displacement of 3.0 liters. It will be offered in several versions of forcing, and the most powerful modification GME T6 HO (High Output) was the first to enter the conveyor, although the parameters have not yet been made public.
Tornado engines will gradually replace the V6 3.6 and V8 5.7 power units from the Stellantis range. According to preliminary data, as early as next year, in-line “six” will be installed on Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer SUVs, as well as on Ram 1500 and Jeep Gladiator pickups. Recall that in the history of the Jeep company there was already an engine called Tornado, and it was just an in-line “six”. Kaiser Jeep produced these engines with a displacement of 3.8 liters from 1962 to 1973.
