Subaru has posted a short teaser for the upcoming WRX S4 for Japan. Although the US version of the Subaru WRX officially debuted earlier this month, the Japanese version has yet to be revealed.
According to a teaser video posted today by Subaru, the new WRX S4 is painted the same bright orange as the US model, and also gets a similar body kit with the same crossover-style wheel arch extensions, sport bumpers and a small spoiler. The only difference between the models is the S4 badge under the WRX and, of course, the red STI badge located on the grille and tailgate.
However, do not think that this is a full-fledged WRX STI, it is not. In Japan, the Subaru WRX S4 is offered in the STI Sport version, which is the top-end of the model’s trim line. Judging by the previous generation, the STI Sport should enter the market with a series of STI components and have a richer list of equipment.
The Subaru WRX S4 should be powered by an upgraded 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which in the US model has a return of 271 hp. and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission or a Subaru Performance Transmission CVT, transferring power to all four wheels.
The new model is expected to officially debut at the end of October, as indicated by the “Coming Soon” tag on the official video.
