The futuristic electric roadster MG Cyberster, which debuted in Shanghai as a concept, will still be launched into series. This was announced by the team of the SAIC Center of Excellence in the Chinese messenger WeChat, reporting on the success of the crowdfunding company, on which the fate of the model depended.
Brand MG, part of the Chinese concern SAIC, left potential customers to decide for themselves whether to release a “commercial” Cyberster. To this end, the company launched a crowdfunding campaign on the MG CyberCube platform, the goal of which was to gain five thousand votes by July 31. However, the goal was achieved much earlier – in just 10 days, despite the fact that each vote cost one thousand yuan (about $ 155).
The funds raised will be invested in the development of a serial version of the electric roadster, in which users of the CyberCube platform will also be able to take part. MG Cyberster, which they liked, was shown at the Shanghai Motor Show in April. The roadster, inspired by the classic ’60s MGB, features a sleek aerodynamic body, Magic Eye headlights and headlamps inspired by the British flag.
An unusual steering wheel, seats with developed Zero Gravity support and a “floating” central tunnel are installed in the two-door cabin. The large curved screen in front of the driver combines gadgets and displays that display images from the side rear-view cameras. It is expected that the interior will undergo significant changes before the launch in the series, but the exterior of the roadster will try to keep as close to the show car as possible.
The company has not yet disclosed the characteristics of the Cyberster power plant. However, some details are still known: advanced batteries provide the electric car with up to 800 kilometers of travel without recharging, and from one place to the first “hundred” it accelerates in less than three seconds.
In the future, other models will be built on the platform of the electric Cyberster – for example, a crossover. They will all become part of the Cyber line.
