The next-generation BMW M2 sports coupe will receive an engine that will deliver more than 400 horsepower. This is reported by Auto Express with reference to its own source.
The most powerful and fastest version of the new-generation BMW 2-Series Coupe, which debuted as standard in early June 2021, will be powered by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder twin-turbo engine.
We are talking about a motor with an internal index S58: it is installed on the X3 M and X4 M crossovers, as well as on the new M3 sedans and M4 coupes, on which it develops up to 510 horsepower. The sports “two” will receive a derated version of this engine with a capacity of about 400 hp, and in its extreme version, Competition, the output of the unit will be about 430 horsepower.
An engine with a red zone at 7200 rpm will work with a 6-speed manual transmission, or with an 8-range “automatic”. The BMW M2 will compete with the 421-horsepower Mercedes-AMG A45 S hatchback and the next-generation 400-horsepower Audi RS3, which recently became the fastest compact car in the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
According to preliminary data, the premiere of the new BMW M2 will take place only towards the end of 2022, and car sales will begin no earlier than 2023.
