Tesla electric cars will learn to change gears themselves

The head of Tesla, Elon Musk, announced on Twitter about the imminent appearance on all electric cars of the brand, equipped with the Full Self-Driving autopilot system, a new option called Auto Shift, which is currently only available on the new Model S. It makes it possible for an electric car to independently determine the required direction of travel (forward or backward) and control the transmission accordingly.

According to the head of Tesla, Elon Musk, the driver of an electric car (while we are talking only about Model S) will not even need to touch the transmission selector. And the function of automatic determination of the direction of travel will soon be available on all other electric vehicles with FSD – that is, on more budget cars – Model 3 and Model Y.

In addition, Tesla electric cars will be able to detect the intentions of passengers to leave the car and, accordingly, independently switch to the “parking” mode. Teslarati suggests that the development of the automatic heading detection function will allow Tesla electric vehicles in the future to even learn to autonomously perform a U-turn in a confined space.

Recall that an updated version of the proprietary “autopilot” – the ninth iteration of FSD technology – appeared at Tesla in July 2021. All electric vehicles of the company are equipped with equipment for an autonomous control system on the brand’s conveyors, but additional funds will need to be paid to activate it. It is possible that the Auto Shift system will also be remotely activated.
