Tesla showed in Taiwan an updated version of the Model S. The changes were small, but not purely cosmetic: the liftback replaced the front lighting equipment with matrix headlights, like on Model 3 and Model Y, and got rid of the crossbar above the number plate connecting the lights. In addition, the battery charging port has changed. The updated Model S has a CCS (Combined Charging System) combo port – this is already equipped with the same Model 3 and Model Y in Europe.
Improving lighting technology is an important and necessary change, given the negative assessment of the performance of the Model S optics from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The tests carried out by the department revealed insufficient illumination of the road, which was provided by the front optics of the pre-reform electric car – especially in corners.
When the updated electric car will appear on sale, it has not yet been announced. The previous Model S update was only a year ago, and it was larger: then the sedan received a new interior, became more dynamic and long-range, and also got a powerful new version of Plaid with a three-engine power plant, producing a total of 1,034 horsepower.
The Model S generation has not yet been changed since the appearance of the model in 2012.
Previously, the Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) autopilot received an update, which is still in beta status, but available to the general user. Three modes of behavior on the road were added to the system, including “Aggressive”, forcing the electric car to resort to harsh maneuvers more often.
