To date, more than 800 thousand Model 3 have been sold
Tesla Model 3 has become the world’s best-selling electric vehicle, according to EVANNEX.
According to the latest data, about 800 thousand copies of the budget Tesla have been sold in total. This figure surpasses the electric hatchback Nissan LEAF, which ended 2020 with 500 thousand cars sold.
At the end of 2020, Model 3 entered the top 20 best-selling cars in the world, ranking 16th. In total, 439,760 Model 3 units were shipped in 2020.
Naturally, the top-3 of this list were occupied by the Toyota Corolla sedan, Toyota RAV4 crossover and Ford F Series pickup, which have long been present on the market.
Interestingly, according to JATO Dynamics, 2020 ended for Europe with a 147 percent increase in the electric vehicle market. And since the beginning of this year, growth has accelerated even more. Renault ZOE became the leader of sales, which sold more than 99 thousand copies. The second place went to Tesla Model 3 with 85,713 cars.
A somewhat different situation has developed in the Chinese market. The local bestseller, the baby Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV, was able to easily bypass the American sedan and break into the first place. Moreover, the gap between competitors is quite noticeable.
Meanwhile, it becomes clear that crossovers are gaining popularity among “electric trains”. This year’s April sales figures clearly show that the Model Y is already gradually outperforming the Model 3 around the world. Among the models of other brands, the Volkswagen ID.4 can be distinguished, which bypassed ID.3. Apparently, the list of the best-selling electric vehicles may soon undergo global changes.
