So, on June 23 in Lhasa (Tibet Autonomous Region of China), the first Tesla solar charging station with energy storage opens.
The opening of Tesla’s first solar energy storage station is associated with the launch of Tesla Energy (the company’s energy division) in China. Thus, Tesla Energy will be responsible for the production of solar panels, as well as battery stations for buildings and premises.
Previously, Tesla sold its Solar roof panels and Powerwall batteries only in the USA, Australia and Germany. The company entered the solar market after acquiring SolarCity in 2016 for $ 2.6 billion (SolarCity was founded by Tesla head Elon Musk’s cousins Peter and Lyndon Riva in 2006).
According to the assurances of Elon Musk, the Tesla Energy division has every chance to outgrow the company’s automotive business: this direction is developing so rapidly. However, at the moment, the quarterly revenue from the sale of cars amounted to $ 9 billion, while the sale of solar panels – only $ 500 million. China is Tesla’s second priority market after the United States.
