Tesla Cybertruck may acquire a more capacious “brother” – an electric minivan, the exterior of which will be made in the style of an angular pickup truck. Tesla’s new model could see the light of day in 2026, according to Carbuzz, which cites a forecast in an industry report from IHS Markit.
The fact that Tesla’s plans include a high-capacity car became a few years ago. In the summer of 2020, the head of the company, Elon Musk, promised to release a 12-seater van that will run through the underground tunnels of The Boring Company.
In January, he confirmed his intention to develop a van or minivan, but noted that the emergence of a new model depends entirely on the volume of supply of batteries.
“It is easy to build a prototype, but it is already very difficult to set up a conveyor assembly on a large scale. This is the most difficult thing in the world, ”Musk said, adding that the delay in the Tesla Semi electric truck en route to production is also due to the difficult situation with the supply of batteries.
According to forecasts by IHS Markit, the Tesla minivan will enter the assembly line of the company’s still unfinished plant near Austin, Texas. The construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2021, after which the plant will begin to assemble Cybertruck pickups, which are expected by more than half a million customers. The first to be released is a top-end modification of an electric pickup with a three-engine power plant.
There is almost no information about the minivan itself. Carbuzz’s designers have suggested that the model that will make Cybertruck on the assembly line will get a similar look. In the renders, the model, nicknamed Cybervan by analogy with the pickup, was depicted with a six-seater saloon and sliding doors.
